Indian tourist to Singapore – 14 per cent growth expected

After China and Indonesia, India is the third highest contributor of visitor arrivals to Singapore.

The record arrivals in 2017 made India the third highest contributor of visitor arrivals to Singapore.

Singapore is expecting 14 per cent growth in number of India tourists to Singapore in 2018 as compared to 2017.  It plans to tap the growing young travellers segment.

Other important visitor contributors to Singapore are Malaysia, Australia and Japan.

In 2017, 1.27 million Indians travellers visited Singapore. From January to September there are 1.08 million Indian visitors to Singapore.

According to GB Srithar, Singapore Tourism Board (STB) regional director, South Asia, Middle East and Africa, 14 per cent growth over last year is expected based on the trend.

He said that Singapore has always been a popular destination for families, cruise and meetings, incentives, conferences and events (MICE), for Indian travellers. However, STB will focus the growing younger population in the sub-continent.

He opines that maximum population in India is in the 35-42 age group, and STB wishes to highlight a different side of Singapore also.

Coolest indie gigs, biggest international concerts, eclectic music festivals, raves and jazz nights, diverse and vibrant music and event scene will appeal to the lifestyle and entertainment seeking travellers.

STB has introduced the concept of Passion Tribes and unveiled four specific tribes, including foodies, collectors, explorers and progressors. Digital medium will be used for promotions to increase our reach across India. Other mediums like radio will also be used.

Singapore is directly connected with daily flights in 17 cities in India as per Chee Pey Chang, STB assistant chief executive.
