Mexican beach resort restricted, US bans government employees from travel

The U.S. government is prohibiting its employees from travelling to Mexico due to security threat in Mexico’s Caribbean Beach resort of Playa del Carmen.

This will be another blow to the battered reputation of the country’s most renowned tourist hubs.

The ban is only applicable to the government employees, the US Embassy stated that the Americans should also consider the security threat which however was not specified, before commuting to the area.

Late on Wednesday the US travel ban was issued and was later cited by the Canadian government in its own meaning.

As per the US Embassy the blast occurred due to an explosive device and the local media reported that other similar device was found attached to another ferry on the nearby island of Cozumel which is also a major tourist draw but wasn’t detonated.

The incident is being investigated by the federal and state officials and the U.S State Department has previously advised travellers to avoid five Mexican states to  the surging crime.

The iconic tourist destinations are suffering due to Mexico’s long running battle against drug cartels. These include the once-glamourous Pacific beach resort of Acapulco and the recently Los Cabos on the southern tip of Baja California. Both the places saw murder rates jumping sharply.
