Delta suffers $25 Million loss in Jan 19 due to shutdown

Delta is the first airline to share financial losses caused due to shutdown. The losses are to the tune of U.S. Dollars 25 million. Longer security lines due to U.S. shutdown have hit the headlines so far. Now, for the first time an airline is reporting revenue losses due to shutdown. Delta is seeing a reduction in revenues in the month of January.
This revenue comes from government contractors and employees and due to the shutdown few are traveling with the airline.
Since FAA inspectors are not working, Delta is facing certification delays for a brand new Airbus A220 jet. Even Southwest Airlines’ Hawaii flights are stalled due to ETOPS approval. The Airbus A220 was set to launch on January. FAA can approve certification only after the shutdown ends. After approval the aircraft will be launched in their daily routes.
Delta is helping take any of the non-security TSA functions off of the TSA’s hands to the extent possible. This will help to shorten the security lines and make it smooth sailing for the customers.
Delta Airlines did not cancel a single mainline flight for 243 days in 2018. Delta had 99.62 percent rate in 2018 in terms of completion factor performance.
