British Airways: Rise in Indian female solo travellers

As per a Global Solo Travel Study from British Airways 47% Indian women prefer solo travel. Across UK, US, France, India, Germany, Italy, Brazil and China it was found that more than 50 percent took holidays by themselves and 75 percent of women were planning a solo trip in the next few years.

Indian women travellers stated that they travelled alone for a minimum of 2-5 times and around 30 percent of Indian travellers intend to travel in the next 2-3 months. The maximum number of solo travellers were between the age of 18-24 with 37 percent travelling solo to Europe and 33 percent to UAE and Middle East.

Around 55 percent of respondent preferred travelling alone due to the feeling of freedom and independence, being able to choose their destination, food and activities.Indian holidaymakers prefer meeting new people and having unique experiences.

Travel blogger and organisor of solo travel trips for single female traveller Zanna Van Dijk commented modern travel has changed and women are looking to explore, discover and uncover.The traditional family holiday concept has changed.

Around 63 percent of women in  Italy between 18-65 have explored another country alone, followed by Germany at 60 per cent and 16 per cent were from the US. Over 50 per cent globally choose a short haul trip overseas, over 30.5 million women in surveyed markets have headed off on long trips of over 6 months.

One in 5 German travellers treated themselves to a solo trip over 10 times. China is the most willing to travel long distance with almost 50 per cent flying over 11 hours for their last international experience. Considering the short haul destinations 67 per cent of solo travellers globally choose to explore the wonders of their own continent.
