Ellie Holman was put behind the bars in Dubai along with her daughter after being challenged over drinking a glass of complimentary wine during her visit to the city.

The 44 years old British mother hailing from Sevenoaks in Kent was asked to return to the UK immediately after being informed that her visa was expired upon arrival in the UAE.

However, she was reluctant to do after travelling for eight hours and entered into a heated exchange with the airport authority.

The official further questioned Dr Holman if she was drinking to which she gave a positive reply. She mentioned that she took a glass of win eon flight which was given free to her by the Emirates Airline staff.

It was revealed to Dr Holman that possession of alcohol was a crime in the UAE, even if it was inside a person’s body.

The mother-daughter duo was escorted by the police and immigration staff and their phones and passports were taken away.

Dr Holman after a span of two hours was put inside a police car and asked to provide blood sample for an alcohol test. The result revealed that she had 0.04 per cent of alcohol in her blood considered below the UK drink drive limit.

After return to the airport detention centre Dr Holman and Bibi was refused food and were not permitted to use the washroom.

Her partner Gary flew out to Dubai to accompany Bibi home, however, Dr Holman remains in the country and might have to stay up to a year till her case is processed.
