St. Lawrence County Tourism is boosting conference tourism with multi-million investment

St. Lawrence County tourism board is funding to boost the tourism promotion, especially conference tourism.

It is the third year, St. Lawrence County tourism gives the new possibility for generating tourism revenue.

County Chamber of Commerce Director Brooke E. Rouse said that he just tourism continues to increase its impact in the county. From 2014, there’s been a nice increase in tax and jobs and spending in St. Lawrence County.

It is a major initiative that Mrs. Rouse believes will yield greater funds for the county, is conference tourism. Her first step toward placing the county in that market was by having the county join the Empire State Society of Association Executives, a nonprofit professional organization that offers training for leadership, and professional development.

Mrs. Rouse said that they are registered to attend the Empire State Society of Association Executives trade show. That is specifically targeting New York State associations that are looking for destinations to hold their conferences.

Mrs. Rouse said she has a list of 25 association prospects that fit with what they are looking for in regards to party size. She said that the conferences they were able to acquire would likely hold their events in about a year, as associations generally book a year in advance, according to Mrs. Rouse.

Each conference with that number of people would bring in $841 in occupancy tax, $693 in sales tax and $1,112 in indirect tax dollars for a total of $2,646 in tax revenue. A $20,000 investment would be returned with just 7.5 conferences.
