Port Commissioners Increase Tourism Grants, Approved Projects

The Port of Seattle Commission approved $200,000 in grants for 26 tourism related projects across the state of Washington. The matching funds program, now in its third year, facilitates tourism development and growth across the state by promoting use of Port facilities, and providing up to $10,000 in matching funds to local communities, destination marketing organizations, ports, chambers of commerce, tribal organizations and non-profits to promote their destinations to visitors traveling to our state.

“With approval of these projects, the Port of Seattle is able to promote tourism to all corners of the state, and bring revenue and jobs to places that need them,” said Commissioner Stephanie Bowman.  “This year we included additional funding for eco-tourism and we look forward to seeing great results from these 22 environmentally focused projects.”

“Without the Port of Seattle’s Tourism Marketing Support Program funding, our organization would not be able to develop a robust online marketing campaign targeted to potential visitors outside of Washington State,” said Marsha Massey, Executive Director of the Olympic Peninsula Visitors Bureau. “This unique program is important to an organization of our size, affording us the opportunity for broader reach and allowing us to grow off-season travel to the Olympic Peninsula, and in so doing, to increase air travel through SeaTac International Airport.”

The Tourism Marketing Support Program looks to partner with organizations along the following categories:

• Trade Shows / Sales Efforts
• Familiarization Tours
• Event Promotion
• Digital Marketing and Advertising
• International Marketing
• Travel Articles / Public Relations
