Question: To our readers, what would you tell about your provincial government’s ambition to draw 50 million tourists on the occasion of the millennium of naming Jeollado?

Reply: Since 2016, the tourists and their number visiting Jeollanamdo every year has passed over 40 million milestone. Regarding agreeableness, the province ranked 2nd and 3rd in terms of overall satisfaction, as per the assessments of the preference of tourist sites by specialized organizations.

The province’s positive reception is an indication that Jeollanamdo has come up as an attractive province, credit goes to the improved access by expanded transportation networks, comprising KTX and SRT high-speed railways, and a flawless execution of projects to cultivate islets and woods.

As the province is quite distant from Seoul metropolitan area, Jeollanamdo had suffered difficulties in luring tourists along with insufficient infrastructure. However, the hosting of Expo 2012 Yeosu worked as a turning point in revitalizing the tourism sector as a vast 12 trillion was utilized for SOC investments in the eastern sphere of the province with a focus on Yeosu.
