Record number of Americans took to sky, airline satisfaction dips

The airline industry saw customer satisfaction getting lower as record number of people took to the skies in the U.S. last year.

Airplanes are more crowded than ever due to healthy economy and relatively low air airfares urged many to take more flights so the drop in the satisfaction will not come as a surprise. The survey conducted by the annual Air Travelers saw 81 percent of those questioned were satisfied with their overall travel experience which was down from 85 percent in 2016.

According to an Airlines for America in 2016 there was an increase in the annual trips by every age group and household income apart from those who earned more than $150,000.

The biggest jump as per the survey came from the households earning $75,000—$99,999 as per the survey and in 2016 people in the category took an average of 5.1 trips which was 3.4 trip last year.

John Heimlich, vice president and chief economist at Airlines for America said that the strides airlines made to improve the flight experience like the varying fares that can fit any budget, in-flight entertainment options, gourmet food offerings and advancements in technology, both on the ground and in the air are resonating with customers and leading to more Americans traveling more often by air.

The survey made among 5,046 travelers comes post a year when the airline industry was hit by major incidents. The passengers got into clash with the flight crew with the most notable taking place in April 2017. A United Airlines passenger was bumped from a flight and dragged off the plane and  incident was captured on video.
