Reclining seats may soon be a thing of past for British Airways

British Airways has decided to take away the reclining seats on its short-haul flights, making it a literal pain the neck experience for its passengers.

The decision will be applicable for flights which are for four hours or less. The new seats will go into the airline’s new fleet of 35 Airbus A320neos and A321neos, which are scheduled to come into service later this year.

According to the spokesperson, the change in the seats will make it comfortable for all passengers since people won’t have the ability to lean too far back and encroach on the seat behind them. There will be, as said, a ‘gentle recline’ and will stay that way. Although, the definition for “gentle” has not been specified by the airline.

the spokesperson continued that as well as new long-haul aircraft, BA also have 35 brand new short-haul planes arriving over the next five years. The new aircraft will have brand new seats set to a gentle recline to ensure everyone in the cabin enjoys a comfortable journey.

Along with this declaration, BA also said that they will introduce new amenities including at-seat power throughout the aircraft and onboard Wi-Fi. These changes might cause a lower the fare for the flights.

In January of 2017 the airline stopped food service for short-haul flights and in August of 2016 it replaced the second meal on its economy “World Traveller” menu with a fun-sized candy bar. Whether or not the new decision will be appreciated by the passengers stands to be a question of time.
