Virgin Hyperloop One signs MoU with Karnataka, Maharashtra for potential routes
On Thursday Virgin Hyperloop One has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Karnataka Urban Development Department (KUDD) and the Maharashtra government with an aim to identify potential routes to nurture mobility in both the states and connect high growth cities.
The hyperloop mode utilizes technology in which a vehicle in a special tunnel floats above the track with the assistance of magnetic levitation at a top speed of more than 1,000 kilometres per hour.
Apart from Maharashtra and Karnataka this company is also ready to study the hyperloop probability in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
It would be working with partners in these Indian states and enable the navigation of regulatory equipments. The preliminary study intends to analyze the applicability and benefits of the hyperloop technology that identifies high priority routes in these states and also inform the state governments on the viability of the project.
Priyank Karghe, ITBT and tourism, Karnataka said that Bengaluru has long been the IT nucleus of the country and all the important tech giants have been operating out of the region.
The launching of the unique technology of hyperloop would further add to the growth potential and development pace of the state.
Devendra Fadnavis who is the Chief Minister of Maharashtra said that a hyperloop route needs high-density traffic to develop into a means of speedy public transit. He feels that by minimizing the travel time between Mumbai and Pune that represent the most and seventh most populous cities in India respectively that possess the potential to offer an optimal route with a high density, it would improve connectivity between the two places.
The company confirms that the Virgin Hyperloop One technology was successfully tested at its test track in the Nevada desert in the US this summer.
