Around 1.07 million Marylanders expected to travel for thanksgiving

According to AAA Mid-Atlantic Projection about one in six Marylanders will be commuting for the Thanksgiving weekend, recorded to be the maximum since 2005.

There will be an increase of 3.4 percent as per the auto club with 1.07 million Marylanders travelling between Wednesday and Sunday of the holiday weekend. The nationwide increase is expected to be 3.3 percent bringing nearly 51 million Americans.

 

Ragina Cooper Averella, the spokeswoman of AAA Mid-Atlantic said that across the country and in Maryland this Thanksgiving weekend was said to be the busiest for the holiday in a period of more than 10 years.Due to the strong economy and labor markets high income is generated, this brings in a lot of confidence in consumers who want to shell out more on travel this year.

Around 91 percent or 967,100 of Maryland travelers are expected to drive to their destination for Thanksgiving as per AAA, 79,200 or seventy percent fly to their destination and about 22,500 commute via buses, train, cruises or other modes of travel  mentioned the auto club.

 

It was forecasted that the number of Marylanders flying for Thanksgiving might grow by 4.7 percent which is the largest increase of any mode of transportation.

 

The rise was due to less expensive flights and better economy as per Cooper Averella.

Air travel is the most expensive mode of travel but consumers are opting for it as they have more money in their pockets. But this year flying for Holiday was not as expensive as other years with average airfares being the lowest in five years.
