Rome has decided to open the topmost tier of the Colosseum to ensure tourists can enjoy the spectacular views that have been unseen for the last 40 years.

The Colosseum of Rome can now be easily viewed from an entire new angle.

This iconic ancient landmark is about to be more accessible to the public that it has ever been in the last four decades. The fifth and highest level of this tall and impressive attraction would be open to tourists from 1^st November onwards. It is located at a height of nearly 120 feet above the ground. The top floors would offer unrivalled views of the amphitheatre.

The freshly opened tier would be utilized by plebians who used to come to watch wild animal fights and gladiator.

People representing the cheapest seats were furthest away from the entire scene below. Tourists would be thereafter led to the plebian sector in groups of 25 by tour guides. Though currently the Colosseum would be serving as an excellent vantage point, back then, in the ancient ages, the scene might not have been quite pleasant.

The director of the Colosseum, Rosella Rea told one of the leading media agencies that the noise and smell at that point of time would have quite hellish.

Rosella said that the wild animals were confined in underground tunnels and were starved for several days. Therefore when the beasts were hoisted up from the darkness to the arena inside the cages the carnage was terrible.

Earlier this year the officials in Rome said that they were thinking about an exclusion zone for the Colosseum following an outbreak in vandalism and break-ins.
