UK Aviation Minister urges Europe to take action on airport queues

Lord Callanan, the UK aviation minister has urged its counterparts “to do all they can to cut queues”.

Spain, Portugal , Italy has been asked to tackle passport control queues with the raising fears that the delays would surge this week.

Popular holiday destinations visited by tourists have been deep huge rush in the immigration lines, where some have to wait to more than four hours.

 

Following the terror attack that took place in Paris and Brussels led to changes in the EU rules with effect from April 7. Passengers from Schengen countries like the UK had to run through a database to alert the authorities if they have a slight chance of being a threat.

Lord Callanan had apathies for the holidaymakers who had to face long queues during the start of their vacation.He mentioned that the border arrangements for Schengen countries were not under the government’s control.

He  understood the frustration of holidaymakers facing long queues as they start their breaks. A4E, which has Easyjet, Ryanair and British Airways-owner IAG under its banner stated that delays at some airports had increased by 300% compared to 2016.

 

Thomas Reynaert, managing director of A4E, commented that Airports like Madrid, Palma de Mallorca, Lisbon, Lyon, Paris-Orly, Milan or Brussels are producing shameful pictures of devastated passengers in front of immigration booths. There situation could turn worse  in the coming weeks after the implementation of the new regulations.
