Construction Starts on New Carnival Cruise Ship

Even as we anxiously await the arrival of the Carnival Horizon, construction began Friday on Carnival Cruise Line’s unnamed third Vista-class ship. The first piece of steel was cut during a ceremony at Fincantieri shipyard in Italy earlier today. The ship, first announced back in late 2016,  is scheduled to debut in the fall of 2019.

The shipyard says the ship will offer a wide range of onboard entertainments, restaurants, theaters, shops and wellness centers. It will also feature the Havana area — a themed private and exclusive area which has proven wildly popular on the Carnival Vista — with cabins, outdoor bars and an infinity pool.

According to Fincantieri, the upcoming ship will weigh in at approximately 133,500 gross tons and measure 1,060 feet long.

The new ship will be a sister ship of Carnival Vista, delivered in Monfalcone this past April, as well as of Carnival Horizon, which is currently under construction at the shipyard in Marghera with delivery scheduled at the beginning of 2018. No word yet on where the newest member of the Carnival fleet will be deployed or what itineraries she might sail.
