China to add 140 Airbus Jets Ahead of G-20 Summit

An agreement has been signed between the China Aviation Holding Company (CAS) for the purchase of 140 Airbus aircraft which includes 100 Airbus, A320 aircraft and 40 Airbus A350 aircraft.

Tom Enders, Airbus CEO, and Sun Bo, Executive Vice President of CAS signed the GTA in the presence of Chinese President, XI Jinping and German Chancellor, Angela Markel. Ahead of this week’s G-20 summit in Germany the two world leaders were meeting.

Tom Enders said that China provides a very strong market for aviation and we are honoured to support the rapid growth of China’s civil aviation with the competitive product portfolio. This endorsement will leverage our leading products in both single and wide body segments.

China is looked upon as an important market for commercial aviation as it has a large untapped market potential and growing middle class.  The order will have a great rebound for Airbus after the less stellar Paris Air Show last month.

Around 1,440 Airbus aircraft had been delivered to Chinese customers by the end of May-2017. Among these 1,440 aircraft , 1230 belong to the A320 family.

A350 has received mild success in China and  airlines like Air China (10), China Eastern(20), and China Southern(20) have ordered the A350.
